Storytelling for business
The B.A. in public relations and advertising will prepare you to put your creativity to work in business, non-profits, the arts or education—among hundreds of possible career paths. Chapman University offers a unique curriculum that recognizes the partnership of public relations and advertising in nearly every communications effort.
Every business, every organization survives by telling its story. If you learn to tell a good story, you can persuade more people, sell more products, raise more money—do a better job at whatever it is you need to do. Our focus on storytelling unites all of the disciplines in the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts in a creative community that seeks the human dimension behind every message—whether it’s a film, a press release, an ad, or a Web site.
Storytellers today must use the media effectively to succeed. Our complete curriculum covers all aspects of planning, creating, and executing effective communications campaigns. And, our students have the added advantage of learning to become highly effective creators of the most powerful media of our time—for film, television, and the Internet.
Curriculum
You will begin with a strong core that will introduce you to the foundations of both PR and advertising and prepare you to function in a globally networked society. You will learn the language of aesthetics for both video and print, the fundamentals of marketing and the strategic use of the Internet as a communications tool.
We offer a particular emphasis in entertainment marketing, encouraging students to explore careers in film, television, music and related fields such as sports and special events. Students may specialize in either public relations or advertising through their electives.
